Partial Discharge (PD) Testing and Monitoring
“Partial Discharge (PD)- A localized electrical discharge that only partially bridges the insulation between conductors and which can or cannot occur adjacent to a conductor.” – IEC 60270 Definition.
Partial Discharge is caused by defects and degradation in HV electrical insulation.
PD activity will eventually lead to complete insulation failure and a fault between phases or to ground, causing an unplanned outage and downtime.
Applications:
- Insulation Faults in HV Cables.
- Detecting Insulation Defects in Both Air-Insulated and Gas-Insulated Switchgear.
- Insulation Defects in Both Oil-Filled and Dry-Type Transformers.
- Insulation Faults in Rotating Machines.
